This weekend was a weekend fully devoted to celebrating the role of Rural Women and acknowledge their contributions to feeding the world. Even more than acknowledging, this weekend had two International Days to celebrate them: October 15th is the International Day for Rural Women and October 16th is World Food Day. Coincidence that they are so close together? No!

Because despite the fact that rural women make up nearly half of the agricultural labor force and who grow, process and produce most of our food are often not recognized for their contributions, they are excluded from decision making processes and lack access to information, assets and resources that could help make them more resilient. It is therefore time to listen more carefully to them, make sure their voices are included and heard and above all, that they feel comfortable expressing their needs and wants.

Sivin Communications works with these issues through the use of Participatory Communication tools, such as Participatory Video and Participatory Photography, to give these groups a tool and a medium to be heard, to feel comfortable expressing their message, and make sure everybody can be included.
